I talk about our veterans each week but have been thinking a lot about our military spouses recently. I had a wonderful conversation with Tony Hernandez, the new CEO of the Defense Credit Union Council, and we both agreed that military spouses get forgotten about way too often and we need to work harder to remedy that. I have had the pleasure to be both a veteran and a military spouse and I always tell people that the duties of a military spouse/significant other is without a doubt the harder of the two. It's easy to know when you have accomplished your mission in the military, but it's much harder to feel successful as a spouse when you have hundreds of things on your to do list each day (and I often only accomplish about 50% of those tasks :(
So, I would like to share a tip to employers about why you should hire military spouses and also an episode specifically meant to motivate our spouses in the middle of October when a lot of other people may not be thinking about you. Thanks Tony for reminding me to keep our spouses top of mind. Without our supportive spouses/significant others our time in the military and transition out would be 10X harder. Tony's wife even helped him get hired in his current role!
