New Year, New You?

It's December already!
Good morning everyone. I'm stressing out. It's almost time to start another year. This month is both wonderful and stressful. December is a time of celebrations with family and friends, good food, drinks and decorations for most people, but for others it can feel isolating. On top of the excitement and stress of many get togethers and present buying, I start thinking about how I want to start off the new year. I reflect on the past 11 months and think to myself...I have one more month to accomplish my goals for 2017. I also have one more month to get my act together and be on the right path to start out 2018!
I thought I would share an article about the Fear of Missing Out, FOMO, from one of my favorite bloggers, Mark Manson, this week. It's not specifically employment related but definitely can tie into transitions. As we get ready to transition into the new year or into a new chapter of our lives after the military I think we all have FOMO. For example: If I take this job now will I miss out on an even better job? If I leave the military now will I regret not staying in longer? The reality is each one of these decisions is just a stepping stone on our path through life, and January 1 is just another day, so we shouldn't let the stress overwhelm us.
There are always so many things we can question about our decisions as we transition. So, as we start December, take a deep breath, read some articles, check out some videos, talk to some mentors but most of all set your azimuth, recheck it from time to time and keep moving along. I often get paralyzed second guessing my decisions and I have to remember: Life is a journey, not a destination.
