HA Newsletter 26: New Year's Challenge

On National Wreaths Day this year, which was December 16th, I had the opportunity to participate in Wreaths Across America (“WAA”) in Los Angeles.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone for a great 2017 and wish everyone a healthy and happy new year! I am so grateful to work with such an outstanding group of people and partners. It is truly an honor. We have a lot of exciting things lined up for Hiring America in 2018, and we will be sharing them with you over the course of the next several weeks and months.
I know each year we start out with both personal and professional resolutions. I am still working on my personal resolutions. In regard to professional resolutions, we will continue to create inspiring programs that show the value that veterans and military spouses provide to the workforce and communities around the United States. If you have ideas that you think we should cover, please share them with us.
On National Wreaths Day this year, which was December 16th, I had the opportunity to participate in Wreaths Across America (“WAA”) in Los Angeles. If you are not aware of WAA, they are an outstanding non-profit whose mission is to "Remember, Honor and Teach.” Each year, they lay wreaths on the graves of veterans at Arlington National Cemetery, and coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies at over 1,200 locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea, and abroad. At the Los Angeles National Cemetery this year, there were 2,000 wreaths while there are over 88,887 graves. I was surprised that in a city like Los Angeles that we had such a limited amount.
Each wreath placed is a $15 sponsored wreath and what I learned is that many locations around the country started small like this but the local community rallied to honor more veterans until thousands received their gift of appreciation. For this upcoming year, I have set a new goal for myself to bring partners together to cover all the graves at the Los Angeles National Cemetery. I know this takes a lot of work and effort but I believe it can be done.
I ask everyone who believes in honoring and supporting our veterans, what can you do to make a difference? I realize that we may not achieve everything that we want to do, but I firmly believe that if we aim high with big goals we can accomplish anything. Let us know what your goals and dreams are for 2018 and how we might be able to make them a reality.
