HA News 57: A New Way To Travel

My First Space A Flight, Made Me Really Miss the Military
I went on my first Space Available (Space A) Flight over the Labor Day Holiday. For those of you who aren't military these are extra seats on military aircraft that are available for free to active duty, retirees and their dependents essentially first come, first serve. Apparently these flights are now available to disabled vets as well according to This Article I read! These flights travel both domestically and internationally. My husband and I happened to catch our first Space A flight to Sigonella, Italy over the holiday weekend. You can check out this Silly Little Video about it if you want to see what it's all about and a few of the challenges that you may face...like not being able to get customs to stamp your entry passport.
I was not prepared for the emotions that came from being back around a crew of service members working to get their jobs done and seemingly having fun while doing it. I miss the camaraderie and sense of accomplishment that comes from working together to get a crazy mission done, in this case, hauling a rather large SH-60 Seahawk helicopter in the belly of a C-17 along with 19 passengers. Next week I am going to put a special emphasis on bringing forward companies that can provide this team and mission oriented focus to your next career. If you think your company should be mentioned please email me and let me know!
And if you haven't ever taken a Space A flight and are eligible for it take advantage but be prepared to reminisce about "the good 'ol days".
Thanks for tuning in and as always send me your thoughts!
