I Met with an ICMC

Good morning!
It is no secret that I have felt both frustrated and overwhelmed with the resources available to both veterans and non veterans to help with the transition out of the military and our career paths forward. There are some really really great resources out there to motivate, inform and mentor but I keep thinking there has to be a better way. I may have stumbled upon an answer.
I met with an Individualized Career Management Consultant yesterday, Mark Cohen. I had never considered the idea of having a "coach" or career consultant dedicated to helping me map out a plan for my career, in both my current job and any potential future jobs, but it has taken an enormous amount of stress, worry and anxiety off my shoulders. I no longer feel helpless because my career progression will ALWAYS be in the hands of my employer and/or recruiters that have never met me. I now have skills, knowledge and support that put my career back in my control. I really AM more than a piece of paper. Of course not all life coaches, career coaches, and ICMCs are created equal, so do your due diligence when picking a trusted advisor for your career journey, however, I firmly believe it is worth looking into.
Here is my biggest takeaway: Making the decision to hire an amazing ICMC is making a decision to invest in yourself and your career and that is EMPOWERING. It is not handed to you or shoved down your throat like TAP. You have to decide that YOU. ARE. WORTH. IT! That was a hard decision for me but it was the final kick in the pants I personally needed.
I think ALL of you, my amazing colleagues and friends, are WORTH IT but YOU have to make that decision to invest in yourself in whatever way makes sense. Thanks for tuning in and allowing me to be a small part of your journey. Happy Friday!
