HA News 70: What do I REALLY want?

← All issues

I thought I wanted a job with a big title and a big salary to justify that my choice to join the military... and my choice to leave was the right one.

Who Am I Trying To Impress With My Job?

I recently realized that I worry too much about impressing "people" with an impressive job title or salary. I also want to feel like I am further ahead than where I would have been if I had stayed in the military. What does that even mean??? Does being further ahead mean making more than I would be as a Major? Does it mean managing more people and having more responsiblity? I thought so but I realized that for me it actually means leading a simpler and more intentional life.
Making more money and buying more things absolutely did not equal happiness for me or for my husband. Neither of us found the right fit going for the highest titles in the most well known companies. I always knew it wasn't the right fit as I was going through the interview process. I didn't think about what I really wanted to do, I just thought about what would "seem" the most successful.
This year I am only going to focus on impressing one person, myself. I didn't think about what I really wanted to do, I just thought about what would "seem" the most successful. I would encourage all of you to do the same. Success means something different to everyone so figure out what it means to you. Don't sell yourself short and Don't sell yourself to the highest bidder either.
Best Wishes for this New Year! I've got some exciting stuff coming for ya!
