Lasting Happiness in Your Career?

Hi everyone,
I am super excited about the article lineup we've got this week. It all centers around keeping an open mind when looking for your next job. You can read about unconventional ways people landed their dream job, an unconventional way to think about happiness, unexpected job fits for veterans, and even tips on using stress to your advantage!
I thought I knew what it meant to manage happiness and stress when I was in the military. I would use stress to act quickly when lives where at stake and I would be happy whenever we successfully completed a mission and everyone came home in one piece. I vowed I would never allow myself to be stressed if no one's life was on the line...that did not last long.
It turns out deciding when it was ok for me to be happy and when it was ok for me to be stressed in the civilian world wasn't as simple as I thought it would be. I'm still trying to make sense of some of the new emotions I feel out in the career world on my own without my team by my side...I don't always have my battle buddies on my left and right to validate and confirm what is "normal".
The biggest secret I can share so far is that YOU alone have the power to decide when it is OK to feel stressed or happy. No one is going to give you a standard operating procedure or rules of engagement that defines when it is ok to feel certain things. We are taught to be stoic when we are on duty and especially during a deployment for 9-12...or in my case 15 months! In most jobs, you are not going to be expected to be stoic for years on end, and being more "human" is the norm. Figuring out what that means to you can be tough.
Hope everyone has a great Friday and that you enjoy some of the info we have for you! As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments or stories you would like to share!
