Today we mark the 18th anniversary of September 11. We are again reminded how indebted we are to our service members, especially in the wake of Hurricane Dorian. Check out the amazing article below about how our National Guard protects people during crises. Fred Rogers, "Mr. Rogers" to many of us, told a story about when he was afraid of emergencies as a child. His mother would tell him, "Look for the helpers. There are always people who are helping." There's a new center in Colorado that helps veterans connect with and enjoy nature - and a fun article about dogs, who help us to live happier lives. Here's to the helpers! -Bill Deutch

I promised myself years ago that I would never accept a job offer from a company without a written parental leave policy. According to one study, fewer than 40% of people negotiated their compensation at their last job offer. But compared to earlier this decade, double the number of employers offer at least some paid parental leave beyond what’s required by law. Transferring jobs within the same company can have lots of advantages. You know the company already and can do plenty of research on the team you’d be joining, and if you’re lucky, your current boss can be a great advocate for you.
