This Week on Hiring America

Hello Hiring America Family!
This week’s newsletter shines a spotlight on resilience, opportunity, and honoring legacy. We begin by remembering Julia Parsons, a World War II codebreaker whose quiet heroism helped turn the tide of history. Her story is a tribute to the often-overlooked individuals whose contributions made a global impact. We also cover important news for veterans—many may be eligible for an extra year of GI Bill benefits, thanks to a landmark Supreme Court ruling. For those navigating workplace challenges or career transitions, we offer actionable tips on managing stress with an agile mindset, job hunting while employed, and delivering standout presentations. Whether you're looking to honor the past or plan for the future, this issue delivers insights you won’t want to miss.
Julia Parsons: The Woman Who Helped Break the World War II Enigma Code
Julia Parsons, who recently passed away at the age of 104, leaves behind a legacy of courage, intelligence, and service. She never imagined that joining the Navy WAVES during World War II would place her at the heart of one of history’s most pivotal codebreaking efforts. Working in secrecy with the stolen Enigma machine, Julia and her team played a vital role in decoding Nazi communications—an achievement that helped shift the tide of the war. Today, we honor Julia’s extraordinary life and the impact of her contributions. Her story is a powerful reminder of the unsung heroes whose quiet bravery shaped the course of history.
Veterans May Be Leaving 12 Months of GI Bill Benefits on the Table
Military veterans are now eligible for an extra year of paid tuition, following a Supreme Court decision handed down one year ago this month. The ruling in Rudisill v. McDonough grants many veterans an additional 12 months of education benefits or a $1,200 refund of their Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) contribution. Veterans with multiple qualifying service periods can now receive up to 48 months of combined benefits through the MGIB and the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
